History Center Honors 50th Anniversary of John Glenn's Orbital Flight

14 February 2012 - In honor of the 50th anniversary of John Glenn's launch into space on 20 February 1962 as the first U.S. astronaut to orbit the earth, the History Center presents a special exhibit of his lifetime achievements.

History Center to be Open Late for Atlas V launch

9 February 2012 - In addition to regular hours, the History Center will be open late on 16 February 2012 for the Atlas V launch from SLC 41. The launch window extends from 5:46PM to 6:30PM. Visit the us before and after you watch the launch from a great vantage point outside the south gate of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. If you can't be here to watch it live, watch the live simulcast on the United Launch Alliance web site.

Virtual Tours

28 January 2012 - The Museum is creating a virtual tour capability for visitors who wish to tour the Museum through their computer. We hope you enjoy these tours and return often to see new additions and the full expansion of the virtual tours.

History Center to be Open Late for Delta IV launch

19 January 2012 - In addition to regular hours, the History Center will be open between 5:00PM and 8:30PM on 19 January 2012 for the Delta IV launch from SLC 37. Visit us while you wait for the launch. The Wideband Global Satcom mission patch is available for a limited time in the gift shop.

Restored Goddard Rocket Returns

18 January 2012 - The Goddard Rocket returned to the Museum Exhibit Hall on 18 January 2012 after an absence of several months for reconstruction of the launcher and rocket.

2011 Space Holidays

15 December 2011 - Once again, Museum Director Emily Perry has put her personal collection of holiday decorations on display at the Air Force Space and Missile History Center.

Delta Graphite Epoxy Motor (GEM) Restoration

9 December 2011 - The Delta Graphite Epoxy Motor (GEM) departed the Museum storage area today for restoration and eventual display with other prized exhibits.

Space Toys at the History Center

8 September 2011 - In America, the Space Age began at Cape Canaveral. Launches into outer space were a novel event in news headlines of the day and were seen as evidence that a new era of progress had arrived.

Museum Closed for Delta II Launch Preparations

1 September 2011 - Because of the proximity of Launch Complex 26 (Air Force Space and Missile Museum) to Launch Complex 17, the Museum will be closed and the gates locked until after the Delta II launch scheduled for Thursday, 8 September 2011. The hazard area for fueling and launch preparations includes the Museum grounds. This closure is a normal condition when Delta II launch preparations get underway. The History Center is well outside the hazard area and will remain open during its regularly scheduled hours.

SpaceX Dragon Capsule at the History Center

10 July 2011 - The actual SpaceX Dragon launched from Launch Complex 40 on its December 2010 maiden flight was displayed at the Air Force Space and Missile History Center from 2 July 2011 to 10 July 2011.

Restored Bomarc A Returns

20 May 2011 - The Bomarc A returned to the museum after a major restoration. It joins the other restored rockets in Hangar R at the Cape.

History Center Honors 50 Years of Manned Space Flight

4 May 2011 - The History Center will host a special exhibit honoring the 50th anniversary of the first U.S. manned space flight by Alan Shepard on 5 May 1961.

Cape Canaveral Lighthouse Memorabilia at the History Center

February 2011 - A large selection of Cape Canaveral Lighthouse memorabilia to be on display at the History Center for several months.

2010 Space Holidays Exhibit at the History Center
