Bumper Blockhouse Mirror Fragment

The early blockhouse (below) supported the first Cape launch, Bumper 8 (model shown in photo to right) on 24 July 1950. The blockhouse was built slightly below grade and used a series of mirrors as a periscope to permit viewing of activity on the launch pad. While the building no longer exists, a fragment (right) of the periscope mirror was recovered from the site.
