History of Launch Complex

  • Contract awarded, 12 August 1958
  • Construction began in 1958 and was completed on 15 August 1959
  • Blockhouse built to support two launch pads, 29A and 29B, only Pad 29A was built
  • Navy accepted complex, July 1959. The pad had an Access Stand.
  • Polaris A1X Test Vehicles launched from Pad 29A, 21 September 1959 - 29 April 1960, Total of 14 launched
  • Polaris A-2 launched from Pad 29A, 10 January 1961 - 12 November 1965, Total of 15 launched
  • Polaris A-3 launched from Pad 29A, 7 August 1962 - 1 November 1967, Total of 18 launched, including the Polaris A-3 Antelope series first launched on 17 November 1966, last on 2 March 1967, Total of 3 launches
  • Placed on standby status in 1968
  • Pad 29 supported British Chevaline (Polaris A-3) launches, 11 September 1977 - 19 May 1980
  • Launch complex deactivated 1980
